Herd by a fast-flowing river
Just as with Rubens, the demand for Verboeckhoven's paintings was much greater than what he could produce on his own. This painting was created together with Alexander Joseph Daiwaille and is an example of the various collaborations between the two artists. Just as in the famous collaboration between Peter-Paul Rubens and Jan Brueghel, Verboeckhoven's colleagues each brought in their own specialities.
This particular painting was probably created around 1870/1871 and it is probably the painting that was exhibited in 1871 as catalogue number 89 in the "Exhibition of painting and other works by living artists" in Amsterdam under the name "A landscape with a herd by a fast flowing river".
